Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey in business development but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Sandi Ballard, Founder of Growing Forward Success Coaching, located in Huntington Beach, CA, USA.

What's your business, and who are your customers?

I am a DiSC® Certified business coach.

I help business owners (and wanna-be's) start, grow and NOT give up on their business, goals, and dreams! My superpower is helping them TAKE ACTION and stay focused and motivated to achieve their goals. I help teams learn to communicate more efficiently and, in turn, work more effectively and productively! (Basically, I help owners and teams find more hours in the day!)

My customers range from start-ups who aren't sure where to begin to solopreneurs and small business owners with 2-3 partners and 50 or fewer staff.

Tell us about yourself

You'll have to read my first book, "From There to Here!" Ha-ha! Well, once my daughter was off to college, my friends started calling me out as I had said, "I'm OUT of Indiana once she is gone," and I realized I had NO PLAN! I had no idea where I would even want to move or what I wanted to do with "all my spare time" as the economy crashed and I lost the job I "thought" I loved.

When it was just the kick in the a$$ that I needed to figure out! What motivates me is that I know I have what other people want and need. I LOVE seeing people get excited about achieving their goals, and so there isn't a day that I "hate" what I do!

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

Publishing four books. And also helping clients achieve their goal of running a multi-million dollar business!

What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?

Learning to NOT do it all yourself.

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

  1. Complete a business plan that includes goals and a marketing plan!
  2. Hire (or trade services) to get your business set up properly versus doing it yourself!
  3. Make sure to schedule in "ME-TIME," as this will help you avoid burnout!

Is there anything else you'd like to share?

It's OK to get frustrated. It's OK to feel lost and unsure of what to do. And it's OK to feel scared shitless... Feel the feels! And remember: business ownership is going to be HARD WORK, but it doesn't have to suck!
