Resilience Artist - Satya Sardonicus

Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey in health and wellness but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Dr. Satya Sardonicus, Founder of Resilience Artist, located in Portland, OR, USA.

What's your business, and who are your customers?

Resilience Artist is all about helping people cultivate greater agency for their health and lives. We help leaders, high achievers, and caregivers struggling with burnout, anxiety, and mysterious health challenges to finally get back to feeling amazing from the inside out.

Tell us about yourself

As a teenager and young adult, I struggled with progressive chronic pain and mysterious neurological symptoms for years. I had chronic fatigue, adrenal fatigue, an increasing number of food sensitivities, systemic inflammation, and multiple concussions over the years (mostly from sports and also a few car accidents). Eventually, it was discovered that I had a brain injury where the lower part of my brain got herniated out through the base of my skull (a condition called Cerebellar Tonsillar Ectopia). Apparently, I won the brain lottery because once I started healing from those issues (which is another very long story but involves me developing the non-invasive technique that saved me from brain surgery and grew into what is now the Fascial Flow Method™ to recover from all kinds of trauma) … then we realized that I also had multiple infections affecting my brain and nervous system (several of which are associated with Lyme disease). With each health crisis, I leaned into the philosophy instilled in me as a child: the body is self-healing...and needs support at the innate level rather than micromanaging that healing process. My deeply personal experience with trauma and chronic illness inspired me to innovate treatment strategies and programs that accelerate healing by activating the body's internal self-healing mechanisms with less reliance on outside providers. I continue to be motivated by a deep sense of purpose to help others along their healing path from a place of empowerment, innovation, and a strongly grounded philosophy of vitalism.

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

I developed a multidisciplinary framework for facilitating therapeutic change (called NeuroFascial Integration™), which has been referred to as a "unified field theory for all healing modalities" to provide sustainable, transformative, trauma-informed care that is easier and more effective for both the provider and patient.

Most recently, I published a cookbook called Resilience Kitchen: Functional Comfort Food Made Easy as a resource guide & inspiration for busy people wanting to eat healthy without sacrificing indulgence and joy with food.

What's one of the hardest things that comes with being a business owner?

Wanting to do too much! This is the constant challenge of a business owner, especially when driven by a deep sense of purpose. It's a balancing act of rest and productivity to do good in the world while also caring for my own health.

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

  1. Get a coach or mentor who has created the type of business you envision for yourself.
  2. Prioritize your health and energetic output. Take time for rest and recuperation (this will ultimately lead to better results for your business anyway!)
  3. Stay connected with your vision and purpose. These should be the driving motivation and guidance for every decision you make (even the small ones).
