A Nordic Style Bathhouse - Sauna House

Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey in health and wellness but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Andrew Lachlan, founder, and CEO of Sauna House, located in Asheville, NC, USA.

What's your business, and who are your customers?

Sauna House is a communal bathing facility specializing in hot and cold contrast therapy. Think Roman Baths but modern age; we're social but chill. Sauna and ice baths inspire healing and reduce both mental and physical pain.

Tell us about yourself

I became an alcoholic after my sports career ended. (ice hockey) After two years of not drinking (the second time), I was still struggling with depression and anxiety. An old friend introduced me to ice baths and a sauna; he challenged me to 30 days of ice water. Fast forward seven years, and I've been hooked ever since. Ice baths are one of the oldest recorded treatments for depression. Fun fact.

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

The team we've built and the community we've been able to serve.

What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?

Besides surviving COVID?! The feeling I get when I can't take care of an employee the way I wish we could afford to.

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

If it's not a hell yes, it's no. You gotta be in the game to get lucky. It's rarely as good or as bad as it seems.

Is there anything else you'd like to share?

Don't forget to take a daily sauna and ice bath.
