Sustainable Change - Savoia Self-Care Holistic Wellness

Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey in health and wellness but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Rita Savoia, Founder of Savoia Self-Care Holistic Wellness, located in Vaughan, ON, Canada.

What's your business, and who are your customers?

I’m on a mission to help individuals and organizations establish a self-care practice with tools to help you thrive at work and in all aspects of life for sustainable change. I offer online and offline Nutritional & Lifestyle Reset Programs that include Breathwork, Yoga, and Mindfulness Mediation for better performance in life and at work. I firmly believe that your potential is limited when your health & wellness are not optimized.

As a former HR professional, I understand that performance and wellness are inseparable. So that is the reason I help organizations maximize performance potential with healthy, engaged, and more productive employees through wellness programs, workshops, keynote speaking engagements, and wellness days that are customized and aligned to their business needs and strategic direction. I also host the Self-Care Goddess Podcast to help spread the work on amazing health and wellness topics.

Tell us about yourself

A few years ago, I developed strong food intolerances that made me feel horrible after every meal. I had low energy, sleep issues, a foggy mind, and pre-diabetic blood sugar levels; all of this was negatively impacting my life and career as an HR Professional and Performance Coach. After adopting holistic lifestyle changes, my digestive health improved dramatically, and I was also able to reverse my mild case of Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome and increase my energy, mental clarity, and productivity. I became so convinced of the power of an integrative approach vs. a pharmacological approach to improving my health that I returned to school and became a Certified Nutritionist & Holistic Wellness Coach and founded Savoia Self-Care Holistic Wellness.

Now I combine my expertise in Human Resources, Performance Coaching, Mindset & Stress Mastery, Nutrition, Breathwork, Yoga, and Holistic Wellness to help individuals and organizations deliver positive, measurable, and sustainable behavioural & lifestyle habit changes for better performance in life and work.

As a dedicated holistic wellness partner, there are six fundamental beliefs I hold that have influenced my work with clients:

• The power of self-healing once we remove the interference.
• Identifying the root cause is crucial for sustained wellness.
• We must consider the whole person & beyond.
• Prevention is key.
• Taking personal responsibility for your own health.
• Education is empowering.

What motivates me to get up every morning with energy and enthusiasm to love what I do is the fact that I can facilitate people’s self-healing by helping them embrace these six fundamental beliefs and help them thrive as they age. Because it’s worked for me, for my family, and for the many clients I’ve been working with.

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

This is my second entrepreneurial venture, so for me having the courage to pursue a career change and follow my passion when my previous HR Consulting business was thriving is an accomplishment in itself. More recently, helping individuals and organizations literally transform their lives and live their highest vibrating life is euphoric to witness and be part of.

What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?

One of the most difficult things about being a business owner is to “stick with it” and not get discouraged when things are not going as planned. Having the courage and resilience to overcome setbacks is definitely a skill that you can develop and need to develop as a business owner. So ensuring there’s always a plan B or a backup plan to avoid further disappointments.

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

  1. Get a mentor and/or join a community of like-minded people that can help you navigate the business areas that you may perhaps be weak in, but also for support, motivation, accountability, and acting as a sounding board.
  2. Ensure that whatever you engage in is in total alignment with your core values and use your Values as a litmus test to know whether or not to engage with potential clients, suppliers or if potential business ideas are worth pursuing.
  3. Your business performance and your health and wellness are inseparable, so ensure you have a healthy lifestyle so that you can sustain the pressure and stress of being a business owner and be able to enjoy the fruits of your labour.
