Word Alchemy for Soulful Brands - Scribe of the Guides

Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Kristen Koester-Smith, Founder of Scribe of the Guides, located in Boise, ID, USA.

What's your business, and who are your customers?

I do Divinely Guided marketing for Soulful Brands. My customers are people who are on their mission's path and passionate about their project because it's what they came to Earth to do. Most of my clients can't go to regular marketing agencies because they don't understand the delicacy of marketing for spiritual businesses.

Tell us about yourself

I've been a writer since I was 10 years old and have two bachelor's degrees in English Creative writing and journalism. When I became a full-time freelance writer four years ago, I found it easy to get clients but hard to find jobs I was actually invested in. Even when I found a client with a heart-based business, I found his way of working exhausting. I realized that people who want to bring about change in the world must first operate at this level of change in their businesses. This is what I now offer my clients- a way to work and operate that is different from what we've done in the past. I alchemize traditional marketing and divination tools to produce copy that is ethical, aligned, and compelling.

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

My biggest accomplishment as a business owner is seeing several clients cry with happiness at what I have created for them.

What's one of the hardest things that comes with being a business owner?

I find dealing with taxes in the United States very challenging. I know we have a lot of tax breaks as business owners, but they don't make the tax code easy to read.

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

  1. Get started with efficiency systems in place so you avoid wasting time from the beginning.
  2. Find partners you enjoy working with so work doesn't feel like work.
  3. Get a mentor to help keep you accountable and grow.
