What's your business, and who are your customers?
Sensōrius Co., a small batch St. Paul-based candle company, hand-poured using soy wax, crackling wood wicks, and reusable glass tumblers. My line consists of two collections, [Vice] and [Element], nostalgic and playfully inspired by olfactive memory provoking fond memories and taking pleasure in our favorite indulgences.
My customers are both women and men, typically early 30s-40s, who have a disposable income, an appreciation for locally made artisan goods, and a love for candles.
Tell us about yourself
The idea behind Sensōrius Co., was born in 2016 from more than a decade of experience as a buyer for a luxury lifestyle boutique where I’ve had the opportunity to learn a lot about the world of home fragrances, among many other departments.
I recently took the leap and left my career to pursue the candle business more seriously, and I am motivated by my long-held dream to become a successful entrepreneur and to always have a creative outlet.
What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?
I consider waking up every day and giving it my all to be a huge accomplishment, and I will always be working towards my biggest accomplishment. There's always something bigger to aspire to.
What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?
Every day requires problem-solving, your best effort, and innovation. It can be exhausting on some days, but motivation is key to success.
What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?
- Follow your gut- your instinct is almost always right.
- Pursue what you love- passion is the ultimate driver.
- Network and be open to the advice of others- it's key to surround yourself with like minds.
