Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Shane Cultice, Founder of Amish Country Soap & Candle Company, located in Millersburg, OH, USA.

What's your business, and who are your customers?

We make all-natural skincare from scratch, including natural soap, lotions, balms, moisturizers, shampoo bars, salts, scrubs, astringents, candles, and more. Our customers are everyone, basically. We have great price points for a premium product.

Tell us about yourself

I learned the soap-making process from my grandmother when I was a teenager. The business came about because I worked 50 + hours a week in the corporate world. My wife decided that enough was enough, so we did some due diligence in our area and in the market in general, and it seemed to fit a need locally and also nationally.

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

Developing products that actually assist customers and provide benefits. Being able to employ 11 people and provide a great working environment for them all.

What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?

Managing your personal life and business life and balancing these are very difficult.

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

Due to the legwork to ensure that the business you are offering is needed or can provide a benefit. Secondly, find a way to fund your business without getting into too much debt. Third, be ready to work your butt off harder than you ever have.
