Hope and Healing Naturopathic - Shawna Eischens

Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey in health and wellness but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Dr. Shawna Eischens, Founder of Hope and Healing Naturopathic, located in Scottsdale, AZ, USA.

What's your business, and who are your customers?

Hope and Healing Naturopathic is a medical healing space that offers comprehensive care for patients who are ready to thrive vs. simply survive. We attract motivated people who understand that they are worthy of healing yet are struggling with finding answers as to HOW to eliminate their symptoms and heal on physical, emotional, and spiritual levels.

We work with all ages, and no case is too challenging! Many of our patients previously struggled with anxiety, fatigue, pain, digestive disturbances, insomnia, and/or hormonal imbalances. They are thrilled to learn the causes of their imbalances so that they can heal from the inside out and have better health for years to come!

Tell us about yourself

As a Naturopathic Physician, I have the best job in the world and feel honored and blessed to be a part of people's healing journey. To help people get their life and health back is truly priceless! It was through my own journey of physical and mental health issues that led me to naturopathic medicine. I was content doing my thing as a physician until I started learning more about business, marketing, and mindset. I love to learn and grow continually, and as I shifted my limiting beliefs, I realized that it was indeed possible to succeed in owning my own business. I opened Hope and Healing Naturopathic in March of 2022. Since then, I've been amazed at how being a business owner is less stressful and more enjoyable than I even imagined.

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

Thanks to practicing what I preach and continually working on myself, I have been able to keep the focus on patient care as I maintain a healthy balance and perspective. Years ago, I would have struggled more with the daily stressors of being a business owner, which would have led to feeling overwhelmed. I have committed to working through my own subconscious blocks, as I do with my patients, and am thankful to enjoy the benefits now. I don't sweat the small stuff and am thankful I worked on myself before opening my own business.

What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?

For me, the most challenging period was before we opened our doors. I had no previous background, experience, or training of any kind in opening a business, so everything was foreign to me. I gathered as much wisdom as possible from trusted business owners, as well as from my business coach. I felt like I was trying to drink water from a fire hose. It was intense, to say the least, as I was still seeing patients in another practice and juggling daily life. Of course, I'm continually learning and growing, but I am thankful that things have been easier and lighter since opening in March.

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

  1. Don't do it alone, even if you feel like you can. Grow your tribe or village, whether it's knowledgable accountants, attorneys, coaches, or supportive and wise colleagues, friends, and employees. There is no need to reinvent the wheel, and your time is likely best spent focusing on your expertise.
  2. Focus on yourself, and everything around you will benefit. Our own limiting beliefs are often what gets in our way or hold us back most. Work through the 'junk in the trunk' so you are more resilient and capable of succeeding in life and business. We can't run into anyone else with an empty cup, so find ways to rest, regroup, balance, and focus on what's really important. This not only benefits you but everyone around you.
  3. Keep things in perspective and stay true to your values and mission. Ask yourself, "will this matter in 5 years?" If not, do your best to let it go vs. wasting energy stressing over it.

Is there anything else you'd like to share?

I love this quote by Jim Rohn - "We must all suffer from one of two pains: the pain of discipline or the pain of regret. The difference is discipline weighs ounces while regret weighs tons."

If you have a dream or passion, honor and pursue it, your soul craves that fulfillment! Starting or running a business may not be easy, but it can be so fulfilling and worthwhile. Props to all of you chasing your dream and sharing it with the world. Keep shining; the world needs your light!
