What's your business, and who are your customers?
I am a professional makeup artist and beauty blogger/influencer. My clientele is typically women looking for beauty tips and services.
Tell us about yourself
I have always loved the beauty industry and appreciating all the beauty in the world, as well as designing and inspiring others. I first started a blog as a special/medical needs parent, which took off, and I loved it! However, I wanted to respect my kids' privacy, so I decided it was best to steer in another direction. That's when I transitioned into the beauty niche. I saw it take off and felt like I was finally pursuing my passions and a trade that suited me! Eventually, I expanded into local business, doing professional makeup. I am motivated each and every day by pure passion. I love what I do and could truly eat, sleep and breathe beauty! It is definitely a calling in my life!
What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?
I was very pleased with the first year in business, full of makeup bookings! (Especially during the busy fall wedding season, when I didn't have a weekend free!) I was also so happy with the massive growth in my skills and knowledge as an artist. I feel that I've grown so much in just a year.
What's one of the hardest things that comes with being a business owner?
Definitely time management and juggling the demands and expectations as a wife and mother of two kids with multiple disabilities. It is very challenging to fit it all in. I often feel pulled in so many directions!
What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?
- Follow your passion!
- Never worry about what others are doing. You are your own competition.
- Don't expect overnight success. One day at a time, and before you know it, each small milestone leads to bigger milestones!
