Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey in health and wellness but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Samantha Peterson, Owner of Simply Wellness, located in Goodyear, AZ, USA.

What's your business, and who are your customers?

I am a vast experienced Registered Dietitian and Holistic Wellness Coach/Practitioner who guides entrepreneurs and service providers on how to prioritize their health in simple ways that feel good, so they may flourish - and then be able to grow in their business, professional life, and beyond (and actually integrate their well-being seamlessly into everything they do and all those they take care of and support).

At Simply Wellness, my mission-based business and lifestyle brand, we believe your health and well-being are the root catalyst for everything you do and how you feel and are at the core of what drives your everyday success. Completely uprooting everything that is ‘believed’ to be true about health, we make wellness quick to implement, feel good to do, and simple, making it easier than ever to prioritize yourself and embody what it truly means to be well and feel well.

Simply Wellness: Holistic health made easy with priorities that feel good.

Tell us about yourself

Let’s keep it informal. You can call me Sammy. My journey started when I was a Clinical Oncology Dietitian. While working in a setting that emphasized care through a whole mind-body lens, I firsthand experienced the true impact that taking a holistic approach to health and wellness can make and how easily it can change lives. After hearing countless patients say, "I wish it didn't take cancer for me to change," I knew there was something that was needed - amongst us all.

This is where Simply Wellness was born, and an idea (a need!) was sparked. That’s when I decided it was time to make a pivot and create a paradigm shift in the way we view wellness. This very shift is so deeply rooted in my mission and everything we do. To move the focus from reactive care to proactive “healthcare,” were becoming healthier is made simple, feels good, and your well-being is able to be prioritized easily before health problems even get a chance to take shape.

Many years later, I’ve seen how complicated and straight-up miserable the idea of starting a ‘health journey’ can sound, from diets that don’t work or suck to lifestyles where it seems unrealistic to even follow. But we are changing the game. From my clients to the community to myself, we live and preach this with ease. Some may say I’m obsessed with helping, and I guess you could say they're right because it’s my mission to help you.

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

My biggest accomplishment as a business owner, after almost a decade now, is to be able to bring my life's mission to the surface, where it's so tangible that the hundreds of patients and clients alike that I have and continue to help are so easily able to incorporate these transformational changes with ease. I often get "it feels so easy" because that's not the norm that society portrays when we think about what a health and wellness journey feels like.

But truth be told, it can be as easy and simple as this. This is the paradigm shift within my mission of coming to life and helping the lives of hundreds of people. This very shift then creates the cascade, or domino effect, from the person who sought support initially now gets to share that with others.

As some would say, health is the greatest form of wealth to share. So what bigger accomplishment than this can I say? Bringing my mission to life and facilitating this positive cascade to continue globally.

What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?

Growing our business and mission-based company wasn’t easy. Like any entrepreneur would tell you, there is no one “right way.” There is only the “aligned way” if you are willing to take the baby steps every single day, not give up, push through any challenges and be open to learning, pivoting, and growing – this is the key to success!

And on top of this, being a business owner is all about personal development. You won't have all the answers, especially as we continue (i.e., ourselves) to evolve. It's all about being open to surrendering to the process, learning along the way, using what some would call "failures" as insights and opportunities, and choosing to push forward from there - remembering the mission / the why that started it all.

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

Business building is all about personal development and remembering the humans on the other side of who you are helping. One of the biggest tips I would say is to get to know humans, what drives them, what helps vs. hinders them, and know them through and through. This is how you actually help the people who you are trying to support and remember too that they are human just like you. I think many people forget this in the tech age nowadays. Remember the human behind who you help.

Be personal and share! Sometimes this can feel like the hardest thing to share stories, share about yourself, why you got started, the little nuances, but it is the very thing the other person on the side wants to know. You are more than a "profile" that someone can look up. Don't be shy to share the stories that make you YOU!

Break the rules and rewrite them. I can't tell you enough how helpful it is to hire, outsource and get the guidance where you need. Once you have this guidance, remember there are no "rules" except the ones we create. So break the rules, rewrite them until they feel suitable to you, and then go out there and show up! This is such an intuitive part when it comes to business. Do it on your terms in a way that feels good.
