What's your business, and who are your customers?

Soccer Stars is a crib-to-college progressive soccer training program that utilizes the soccer ball to help build confidence, gross motor skills, cognitive development, and hone socialization skills, all while improving soccer skills. Our main customer base is children ages 1-5, but we offer a curriculum for ages 1-18 years old.

Tell us about yourself

I bought this franchise because of 2 things: not only have I seen a lack of coaching ability throughout many soccer clubs in the Omaha & Lincoln Metro, but anyone who has played soccer in Nebraska knows that soccer in the state has a large potential for growth. I was first presented with this opportunity by one of my business partners because he knew I had many years of playing soccer in the state and wanted to see it grow! I am motivated by the children that I have the opportunity to impact on a daily basis. I have the opportunity to help foster a love of sport and activity in a child, to coach a child to know that the game of soccer is all about having fun & doing so, impacting the health and happiness of children all around Omaha & Lincoln Metro!

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

We are just in the beginning stages of the Soccer Stars franchise in Omaha & Lincoln, so I do not have a huge opportunity to have too many accomplishments, but I feel my biggest accomplishment is owning a business that I am passionate about. I feel very fortunate that I have the opportunity to make an impact on the community as I have in front of me.

What's one of the hardest things that comes with being a business owner?

Making sure that you can have the best program for children and parents to go to. That is the Soccer Stars' goal that when a parent is looking for soccer training close to where they live, Soccer Stars should be the first company with the best reviews possible in their area. There are a lot of working parts to that, and keeping those parts working smoothly is tough.

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

  1. Make sure you do your research before stepping into a business because anyone who has owned or owns a business knows that launching a business is a very difficult thing to do.
  2. Make sure the business you are looking to own is something that will make you happy, fulfill your days, and something that you are absolutely passionate about!
  3. Make sure your focus daily is on the bigger picture. Every day we have to go into detail to make all the working parts of the business run smoothly, which can be blinding sometimes to the big picture, but remembering why you started the business in the first place is so key to your everyday happiness and success.
