What's your business, and who are your customers?
Solely Relax is not just a candle company; we are there when you're making memories with friends and family. Our products are there when you're having a birthday, get good news, or celebrate, or it’s a holiday. The scent is the number one memory builder, and we are there to help you remember those precious moments in life as well as when you relax.
Tell us about yourself
It all started when my wife was having trouble sleeping. She is a disabled Veteran, and to help her, I started looking into diffuse oils and essential oils. I eventually landed on candles and multi-use sprays; our first product, calm, was born. A lavender-based product I can spay on her pillow 20 minutes before she goes to sleep. Or a candle I can light while she reads a book to help her relax. Eventually, we decided to turn it into a business when I saw how much it was helping her. We both thought it could help a lot more people in the same manner, relaxation and sleep. This is what motivates both of us with our business.
What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?
Teaching others the gift of making a candle. My wife is part of the Wounded Warrior Project. So we had the opportunity to teach how to make candles through zoom to fellow Veterans across the nation, from Hawaii to Main, how to make candles during 2020 Mother’s Day. It was very rewarding.
What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?
Things always come up when you're a small business owner. Being able to balance the surprises, deal with them, and work through them.
What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?
- Don’t stop working through the kinks.
- Get to know people, and mingle.
- Know when to say No.
Is there anything else you'd like to share?
Being a business owner can be challenging, but when you have the right formula, and it finally takes off, that means all the hard work pays off.
