What's your business, and who are your customers?
We have developed an entirely new technology that will spawn a new medical and consumer industry. The first product about to be launched will be the SOLTEC Sleep Management System for consumers. It can also be used for stress reduction.
Tell us about yourself
I initially became a Board-Certified Neurologist (MD) with a deep interest in the brain and mind. Rather than practice medicine, I started a business (CNS, Inc.), which was ultimately sold to Glaxo-Smith-Kline for $566M in 2006. Since then, I have started another business that has profound diagnostic and therapeutic applications. I wish to help people physically, emotionally, mentally, and spiritually.
What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?
In my last business (pre-internet), I licensed what my Board of Directors called a nose band aid (they wanted to fire me for doing so, as we were a publicly held, high tech, capital medical equipment company), personally named and launched it as the Breathe Right nasal strip in 1994 for virtually no cost using a novel PR strategy.
What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?
Recognizing that you are not in complete control of the outcome.
What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?
Be humble, find people to work with you that share your passion and fill in the gaps (knowledge and temperament) that you lack, and watch for the signs that will help you to make the right decisions.
Is there anything else you'd like to share?
Dump your ego and learn the difference between knowing versus thinking.
