The Slow Healing Revolution - Soma Mystica

Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey in health and wellness but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Sigourney Weldon, Founder and Director of Soma Mystica, located in Geraldton, Australia.

What's your business, and who are your customers?

Soma Mystica is the leading Global Training school teaching Somatic Therapy for trauma resolution. We train Holistic Health Practitioners all over the world in our internationally accredited modalities, which bridge scientific and spiritual healing philosophies.

Tell us about yourself

I am an Australian Entrepreneur, 3x Bestselling Author, Teacher, and Revolutionary, innovating new healing modalities which are changing the way that we view the wellness industry. Despite the desire to be a journalist and writer, my journey started out with graduating from University with distinctions as a Physiotherapist, moving into and specialising in Neurology, and working for close to a decade within different hospitals in Australia.

In 2018 I innovated a body of work called WILD GRACE which was a healing modality and training school teaching women how to heal and guide others through practices of the Feminine Tantric Arts. I sold that business in 2022.

My second business, Soma Mystica, was formed in 2021 and is a body of work that bridges more traditional Psychological healing work with Somatic body-based therapy. I have Globally Accredited training programs and train clients from all over the world to become artful guides, skilled in being able to read and locate hidden traumas in the body, to support deep healing and transformation in clients. What motivates me to show up for my work every day is a deep desire for humanity to evolve from a space of operating from trauma to a place where relationships are built upon connection, intimacy, love, and kindness.

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

My biggest accomplishment has been being invited to the Forbes Business Council in 2021 when my book WILD BUSINESS became an International bestseller.

What's one of the hardest things that comes with being a business owner?

For me, it has been creating a balance between my business + personal life. I am so passionate about what I do that I often get swept up in the current creativity that has me putting all of my energy into my business. I then often grow resentful of it because of how much it requires of me. Setting healthy personal/business boundaries and ensuring I am putting as much energy back into myself as I am giving has been really important for me to learn and implement.

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

  1. You can start wherever you are at. You don’t need to “have it all sorted” or have everything you need before starting your business. When we open to trusting and can ask for support, doors open that we may not have considered possible beforehand.
  2. Be realistic. Set tangible, realistic goals for yourself and your business so that you are setting yourself up to succeed.
  3. Know who / what you are in service to. Your bigger “why” is what you have able to show up in dedication and commitment to your bigger purpose when things get hard and you want to question what you have created or throw it all away (which DOES happen).
