What's your business, and who are your customers?

SongSplits is a company that aims to help songwriters get properly paid for their music. The industry as a whole has not utilized technology very well, resulting in hundreds of millions of dollars not being paid to songwriters. We aim to fix that for our customers (the people who write all the great music we all enjoy!).

Tell us about yourself

In our industry, musicians are focused on being creative... which makes the world a better place. I am excited about finding solutions to make the business side of their world easier for them and hopefully putting more money in their pockets along the way.

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

Staying with it through all the challenges at the beginning, knowing the real accomplishments are worth the effort.

What's one of the hardest things that comes with being a business owner?

Prioritizing the vital tasks from the tasks that still need to get done.

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

  1. Don't raise outside money until you absolutely have to - grow organically, prove the model, and show traction.
  2. When you do raise money, ask for more than you think you'll actually need... because you probably will!
  3. Find mentors that have done it before. It takes a team and lots of different skill sets.
