Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey in advertising services but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Aimee M. McGrath, Owner of Soul Creative, LLC, located in Jacksonville Beach, FL, USA.

What's your business, and who are your customers?

Soul Creative, LLC. is a brand-obsessed boutique agency serving small businesses that understand the importance of a strong brand and a fabulous and consistent online presence and are interested in a collaborative process that brings them directly to their target audience. My proprietary branding process really gets to the story behind the business, and then the journey unfolds from there!

Tell us about yourself

I was laid off from a work-from-home job where the knowledge I gained was invaluable. I was the managing editor for a network of 35 websites and was responsible for keywording, article writing, social media, affiliate marketing, and more. During my short job hunt, I was approached by someone at the Candy Factory, where I had been a long-time member, and the first meeting I had, became a large job that carried me for a few months while I considered my options. I found that in many of the jobs I applied for, I would be limited in utilizing my vast skillset to only one or two skills. I then got a second client, and the rest is history. I fell into entrepreneurship by mistake and out of necessity, and I've never looked back! The biggest compliment I get is that no one expects or understands the importance of building a brand around the story and who they are... who they aren't, etc. I work with many women that come to me with their dream business idea, and I help them make their dream a reality. That's what gets me up in the morning!

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

Bringing life to business ideas for my amazing clients. Personally, being able to sustain a move from Pennsylvania to Jacksonville, Florida, and in my first year in Jax, I was awarded one of the Best of Jacksonville Web Designers.

What's one of the hardest things that comes with being a business owner?

Time Management! Charging for what I'm worth!

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

  1. Don't let fear keep you from living your dreams. If I can run a successful business and work with amazing customers... anyone can! I always had dreams of becoming a business owner, and I never believed it would actually happen!
  2. Set up a separate business account! Seriously, I work with a lot of people (myself included in the beginning) that didn't realize that you can really get in trouble if you co-mingle funds!
  3. Have a Plan For Growth - this is an area I didn't really work on, then got so busy with work that I didn't have the time to set up the foundation of my business and create processes and a plan for adding team members.
