What's your business, and who are your customers?

I started Soul Winds Empowerment to guide people to get unstuck and empower themselves to create a life they’re excited to wake up to. As an empowerment coach, I help people connect with themselves, their intuition, and their authenticity. My 1:1 clients and workshop participants include people of varying ages—from baby boomers to zoomers (gen Z). I work with people who know they want to change and can commit to digging deep and doing the work.

Tell us about yourself

Readers may assume I’m too young to be offering this kind of guidance. It makes sense—I’m twenty-seven years old and look even younger. But, as a Highly Sensitive Person (HSP)—also understood as sensory processing sensitivity—I have a heightened awareness of nonverbal cues and can tune into signals from someone’s nervous system. I can read between the lines, sensing disconnects and where someone is stuck as well as what gives someone joy and purpose.

The depth of my experience as a lonely only child also forced me to ask myself big questions, tune into my intuition for answers, and forge a path that feels balanced, connective, and meaningful. I bring people through a similar inner-reflective process and witness them shift their lives in both subtle and radical ways. I believe that because empowerment starts within and emanates outward, we help transform our culture as we transform ourselves.

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

My biggest accomplishment is pursuing my calling despite the obstacles of starting my own coaching practice. Since I discovered my ability to guide people, I’ve known this work is what I authentically and wholeheartedly have to offer the world. Embodying this feels like an achievement in a culture that often tells us what we “should” and “shouldn’t” do.

What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?

It has been challenging to market my business in a rural area where coaching doesn’t have a name for itself and self-empowerment work isn’t culturally encouraged. Although it continues to be a challenge, I see it also as an opportunity to bring a transformative modality to people who wouldn’t otherwise experience it.

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

  1. Make sure your heart is in it. When you do work that inspires you and that you feel excited about, you’re more likely to push through and overcome the challenges that come your way.
  2. When you start out, either have savings you can tap into or have another way of bringing in income. I didn’t give enough thought to this and learned the hard way that feeling pressure to make money on a launching business can create inauthentic marketing and high levels of stress.
  3. Presentation goes a long way. Put time and energy into a logo, website, the words you use, and any other communications and marketing materials. I know that when I’m looking for a service or a product, I pay close attention to the care and intention someone has put in and how they share their work.
