Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey in personal development but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Jolie Glassman, Owner of South Beach Boxing, located in Miami Beach, FL, USA.

What's your business, and who are your customers?

I own South Beach Boxing gym on 715 Washington Ave., South Beach, Florida, for 25 years, and I have been a whole life coach and mindset/transformation coach for over 30 years. I come from an educational background in education and behavior. I show people how great they are and bring out their inner badass and make them humble badasses in mind, body, and spirit.

My customers are people and cultures of all ages who are overachievers or want to be. They're undercover badasses. They have badassery underneath, and they need it brought out of them. They're seeking confidence, full self-expression, balance, purpose, vitality, strength, self-reliance, and how to have it all. They want to be and feel powerful and do what powerful does. They are moms, business owners, teachers, and leaders who want exponentially greater results and have moved whatever is in their way out of the way to become their greatest and best selves in mind, body, and spirit.

I make people F.I.T. (Fight for Intentional Transformation) in all areas, fit meaning a state of readiness. Ready to handle and tackle anything that comes their way. We get people strong, fit, confident, and healthy in their minds and bodies and infect them with insane, happy, fun energy.

Tell us about yourself

I live to serve and transform lives on the greatest scale possible with grace and ease. I show people how great they are. I come from an educational and teaching background and have always been in the business of transformation, wellness, and personal development. I began as a school teacher in the inner cities and detention centers, and then in 1998, I opened my South Beach Boxing gym. I've now had it for 25 years and have transformed over tens of thousands of lives.

I have a kids' charity called Jolie's Kids, and I do individual coaching and group coaching for people who want to truly be the hero and champion of their own life. I published a book in 2022 called 101 Rules to Being the Champion of Your Own Life, and Mike Tyson wrote the back cover, and now I'm releasing my second book, a self-coaching guidebook, 1000+ Questions to Ask Yourself to Become the Champion of Your Own Life.

I am motivated every day by being me and my fullest expression in the world and serving and transforming my world and the world around me, and sharing my mess/message to educate others. I live to make people strong, fit, confident, and self-reliant in mind, body, and spirit.

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

My biggest accomplishment as a business owner is how successful and world-renowned my business is and knowing all the obstacles I had to overcome and economic crashes I had to succeed through over the 25 years and still be a leader in the field. Also publishing my book, 101 Rules to Being the Champion of Your Own Life, with Mike Tyson writing my back cover and saying I'm the best coach to have in your corner, and then Muhammad Ali's ex-wife wrote my forward. And soon, in 2023, my second book will be published, a self-coaching guidebook, 1000+ Questions to Ask Yourself to Become the Champion of Your Own Life. I've also won many prestigious awards consistently throughout my 30+ year-long career, and still winning.

What's one of the hardest things that comes with being a business owner?

One of the hardest things for me is paying people to do jobs and knowing I need to work on the same stuff and put in sometimes even more work, knowing I'm paying for the job and not getting paid myself. Also - staying ahead of the curve for over a quarter of a century, so constantly being innovative in your field.

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

  1. Know the end game. What your vision is, the goal of it all, and how you will be of service.
  2. Know your strengths and weaknesses and do what you do best and hire the best in the other areas for the rest.
  3. Lead by example and be your brand. Eat, sleep, and breathe it. Allow all you do to be an extension of all you offer. Stay in action and keep stacking your knowledge and education to become the best in your field.
