What's your business, and who are your customers?
We are predominately a pediatric-based private practice, offering speech and language therapy services to children of all ages. Our mission is to provide professional, personalized, and creative approaches to speech and language development intervention to make it fun, effective, and functional. We assist parents in obtaining the skills they need to help their children to become better communicators.
Tell us about yourself
My name is Dina, and I am first and, for most, a proud “speechie” (a speech-language pathologist). My work and dedication to the field of speech-language pathology and my clients are my primary focus daily. My field is my passion, and my strong desire to make a change and help as many families and clients in need as possible is what led me to my second mission as a business owner.
What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?
My biggest accomplishment as a business owner is individually every single one of the children and families we were able to help throughout the years. Nothing makes me happier but to hear that myself and my team can make a world of difference in someone’s progress and development. There is another side to my business that welcomes other clinicians to work as part of the Speech Link team.
More specifically, the new graduates I get to mentor every year. I am honoured to have the opportunity to see them flourish and grow as clinicians. Not only do I have the chance to share my knowledge and experience with them, but I also learn just as much from them.
What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?
The hardest thing is work that never ends. My business is my baby. It is very rewarding, but the worry is always there.
What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?
As a business owner, you will be rewarded if you put customer service first. Ps. “Just Keep Swimming” (Dory, Finding Nemo). Success doesn’t come overnight. Be consistent. Stay hopeful. Work hard. There will be many obstacles on your way. No matter what, just keep swimming.
