Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Julie Floyd, Founder of StyldLife, LLC, located in West Menlo Park, CA, USA.

What's your business, and who are your customers?

Our business, StyldLife, is revolutionizing how people access top-tier fashion and beauty services. We offer a versatile platform that connects clients with industry-leading stylists for virtual appointments, breaking down geographical barriers and opening up new opportunities for personalized styling experiences. Our customers range from individuals seeking a confidence boost through a fresh look to those preparing for meaningful events like weddings or job interviews. At its core, StyldLife is about empowering every client to look and feel their best.

Tell us about yourself

What first got me started working on my business was a personal experience of struggling to find qualified local hair, makeup, and fashion stylists who understood my unique features and weren't motivated by sales commissions, as is often the case in boutique and department stores. I realized that many people face a similar challenge, which motivated me to find a solution that could make high-quality expertise accessible regardless of location. This led to the creation of StyldLife, a platform where people can schedule virtual appointments with global expert stylists and industry leaders. I firmly believe that anyone, regardless of where they live, deserves the opportunity to learn and celebrate their unique selves with the guidance of top professionals. Through StyldLife, we offer a convenient and collaborative approach to personal styling that empowers our clients and helps them build confidence in their appearance.

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

My proudest moment as an entrepreneur came when I realized the incredible difference our services made in our clients' lives. The happiness, confidence, and empowerment we facilitated through their experiences with our business went beyond just enjoying their appointments - it became an accomplishment I cherish deeply.

What's one of the hardest things that comes with being a business owner?

As a business owner, the hardest thing I've faced is navigating the steep learning curves of entrepreneurship. While I had a strong vision for my business, translating that into a profitable and growing enterprise has been a constant learning process. From streamlining our services to managing finances, marketing, and operations, each aspect of the business has demanded in-depth knowledge and understanding, as well as patience and perseverance. There have been times when I've been overwhelmed by the sheer amount of learning required, but ultimately, overcoming these challenges has made me a more resilient and skilled entrepreneur.

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

  1. As an aspiring entrepreneur, strongly believing in your idea or vision is crucial. This unwavering faith will fuel your passion and be the driving force behind your determination to succeed. Without this belief, you'll lack the necessary motivation to persevere when challenges arise. Remember, everyone will have an opinion on your business, but it's up to you to remain steadfast and stay true to your goals.
  2. Your team is an integral part of your business's success, and as a leader, it's vital to trust in their abilities. Delegate tasks accordingly and empower your team members to take on responsibilities that align with their unique talents. Fostering a positive work environment, and maintaining open lines of communication, will all contribute to a high level of trust within your organization. Ultimately, a confident and motivated team will yield better results and drive your business forward.
  3. It's essential to recognize that you don't have all the answers, and that's okay! Embrace every opportunity to learn from others, whether from your mentors, industry experts, or competitors. Absorb knowledge from various sources and use it to enhance and refine your business strategies. Additionally, thoroughly analyze any mistakes or failures along the way and determine what valuable lessons can be derived from them. By being open to learning and committed to growth, you'll navigate the entrepreneurial landscape more effectively, ultimately leading to long-term success.
