Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey in pet care but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Lisa Rensch, Founder of Sweet Horse Herbs, located in Rapid City, SD, USA.

What's your business, and who are your customers?

I create custom herbal supplement protocols for horses to support healthy, balanced, thriving, happy equines. My customers are horse owners all over the United States, with horses of every age and discipline, from professional athletes to backyard pets.

Tell us about yourself

I've always been a horse lover since I was a little girl, and I am also passionate about low-tax living and eating. I am a self-taught herbalist, making all my tea blends for friends and family. Before I started Sweet Horse Herbs, I was in search of high-quality herbal supplements for a horse that I had recently acquired that needed some specific support. I came across Equine Natural Care through my saddle fitter and was impressed with the products. The reason they worked so well is that they are custom tailored to the horses' individual needs. I became a distributor and learned how to do the Equine Energetic Evaluation. I love that I get to ask the horses what they want and need! No chasing symptoms or guessing what is best. That is what lights me up and motivates me. I am continually surprised at the incredible results from my customers, but it is all because I learned how to ask the horse through energy communication and kinesiology. I truly love helping horses feel their best!

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

My biggest accomplishment as a business owner is the personal growth and development I have received through the challenges of building my personal brand, attracting customers that have become my community, and believing in the product and service I provide. With all of that, I have found my inner voice and the self-confidence to share with others authentically to make a positive impact on my customers ad their horses. I truly love connecting and building community.

What's one of the hardest things that comes with being a business owner?

I think the hardest thing about being a business owner is the consistency that you have to have in your online and social media presence. It is so important to have an online presence and continually connect with your customers, but I find it challenging to keep up with the social demands of ever-changing attraction marketing strategies.

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

  1. Do something that you love and that provides high value and impact.
  2. Be consistent with your offers and putting your product or service out there to your potential customers.
  3. Have a positive mindset and a gratitude practice to attract your ideal and best customers.
