Scale Sustainably - SweetSea Digital

Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey in marketing but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Seren Nurgun, Founder of SweetSea Digital, located in Fort Lauderdale, FL, USA.

What's your business, and who are your customers?

SweetSea Digital provides high-quality search engine optimization (SEO) and blog services to online business owners (like coaches, consultants, personal brands, creators, authors, freelancers, etc.) and local business owners (like real estate agents, dog daycare/boarding/spas/groomers, photographers, wedding planners, interior designers, etc.). What sets me apart from other SEO providers is the high level of detail, quality, integrity, and transparency I operate with, my care for people and the planet, and my dedication to doing good business.

Tell us about yourself

Before I founded SweetSea Digital in late 2020/early 2021, I worked a 9-5 job as a Digital Content Marketing Executive. That role was made redundant because of the pandemic, and I soon decided the 9-5 life just wasn't for me. That realization kickstarted my exploration into the online business world, and the rest is history! It hasn't been easy, but it's definitely super fulfilling. Seeing the financial gains that come from investing in SEO never ceases to amaze me. Honestly, it's the fact that I'm meaningfully helping good people that makes me excited to open my laptop every morning.

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

A lot of business owners would probably say their biggest accomplishment is financial, but truthfully my biggest achievement as a business owner is just building something that lets me support a lot of genuinely good people, who have mostly been women. It feels amazing to help put more money into the pockets of women because, in the timeline of human history, women haven't even felt money in their pockets until relatively recently. According to an article published on February 1, 2023, in the Harvard Business Review, less than 3% of all venture capital investments go to women-led startups in the U.S., and it's not because there aren't a lot of promising women-led startups.

What's one of the hardest things that comes with being a business owner?

One of the hardest things that comes with being a business owner is the inherent lack of a business community. Unless you actively seek it out, business life can get very lonely. So having a group (even if it's small) of like-minded business folks can be an awesome space to bounce ideas around, vent, seek advice, or even support each other.

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

Choose something you're unshakably interested in because motivation ebbs and flows. Define your values from the very beginning so you can make decisions with them in mind, and do not dwell on shut doors because you have the power to open your own doors.
