Making Podcasting as Accessible as Possible - Switch and Board

Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Selcuk Karaoglan, Owner of Switch and Board Podcast Studio, located in Washington, D.C., USA

What's your business, and who are your customers?

I am the owner of the Switch and Board Podcast Studio, located in Dupont Circle, Washington, DC. Our clientele is diverse and includes journalists, bloggers, business owners, as well as both for-profit and non-profit organizations.

Tell us about yourself

I initially started my podcast business as a side project while running my IT consulting company. I decided to experiment with the idea of a podcast studio with one of my clients and quickly realized the high demand for an affordable podcast studio in the area. As a result, I continued to work and invest in my business, which has now become my full-time job.

One of the greatest benefits of owning a podcast studio is being able to meet interesting people every day and listen to stimulating conversations. It's also incredibly rewarding to be able to assist others in achieving their dreams through podcasting.

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

I built this business from the ground up with the intention of opening my studio doors to anyone who wanted to share their stories. Prior to Switch and Board, podcast studios in the DC metro area were exclusive. We challenged this notion by creating an inclusive environment where everyone is welcome. I often refer to our studio as the neighborhood bar, a place where people can gather, share ideas, and engage in meaningful conversations.

What's one of the hardest things that comes with being a business owner?

I believe that the root of the problem is the uncertainty of what tomorrow will bring. As a business owner, it's important to maintain a positive attitude, no matter what challenges may arise.

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

Begin working on your business idea today. Seek out the input of trusted individuals and carefully consider their suggestions, but never lose sight of your vision. After all, nobody knows your plans for the business better than you do.
