What's your business, and who are your customers?

I am the founder of SystemsGuru LLC, where we serve women online coaches, service providers, and creatives by helping them organize, streamline and automate their client experiences. We are based in Atlanta, Georgia but work with clients and students internationally through consulting, coaching, courses, and training to teach them how to elevate the value of their program, honor their boundaries and embody the vision of their brand by leveraging their client experiences. We are honored to help these business owners find clarity, confidence, and freedom in their business operations.

Tell us about yourself

Like many businesses, I started Systems Guru during the COVID pandemic. This was also shortly after I was passed up on a job promotion that I wanted (and needed) to move out of a vicarious living situation. I started this business to both make money and to also keep myself distracted from the pandemic. But it’s grown and evolved way past me, leveraging my process improvement skills. It is now a business that creates freedom and confidence for entrepreneurs, mothers, daughters, aunts, and friends- who just want to build and sustainable business. We are motivated and inspired by the women we help.

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

My biggest accomplishment as a business owner has been working with T-Mobile's Magenta Edge business program as their Customer Relationship Management - Subject Matter Expert. I had the amazing opportunity to do a live presentation and contribute to the curriculum on their website. This is a huge accomplishment for me because, honestly, at the time that I received the email presenting the opportunity, I was contemplating quitting my business. I was tired and exhausted and thought that my efforts weren't producing enough. This was a huge lesson to keep going; you never know who is watching.

What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?

One of the hardest things that come with being a business owner is the constant requirement to pivot. Even when you plan to the very hour, minute, or second - there is a very high chance that it will not happen the way you planned. You have to account for that and be open to the change with full confidence.

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

  1. Beat perfectionism - Nothing is perfect. Put your work out now, so you have something to improve over time.
  2. Find a community - Entrepreneurship is hard. Find people who are going through what you’re going through and/or have been where you are to keep you motivated when times get hard.
  3. Invest in education - The more you know, the more you grow. Invest in learning about and improving the foundational areas of your business first before investing in the 'bells and whistles.
