Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey in health and fitness but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Michael Montanez, Owner of Tabata Ultimate Fitness, located in Brooklyn, NY, USA.

What's your business, and who are your customers?

We specialize in group fitness classes for strength and functional training. We have a diverse clientele that ranges from all fitness levels and ages 15-60 years old.

Tell us about yourself

I’ve trained in martial arts for the past 35 years and injured my right knee, which took away my competitive abilities. After I rehabbed my knee, I started to train clients and share my knowledge. What motivates me to train clients is to see them achieve their fitness goals.

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

Dealing with business obstacles in the beginning stages and overcoming the challenges after the pandemic, which shut us down for 7 months.

What's one of the hardest things that comes with being a business owner?

Management of employees and accepting the fact that it is a 24/7 operation with no days off.

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

  1. Focus on growth and not the bottom line.
  2. Don’t be afraid to take risks.
  3. Network with other companies in a similar industry.
