What's your business, and who are your customers?

I help coaches, and female service-based entrepreneurs overcome their fear, build their confidence and increase their visibility online so that they can attract their dream clients whilst creating freedom and flexibility in their work. The women I work with are often leaving behind corporate careers to pursue their passion and create an income and impact outside of the traditional 9-5 role. They are passionate about what they do and want to use their skills to make a difference in the world. I help them reach their goals through customized 1-1 coaching or work with me in a group environment or through one of my self-study programs.

Tell us about yourself

I studied Law at University and have a post-grad legal diploma. I worked in legal practice for the early part of my career before moving into legal recruitment, where for 10 years, I helped lawyers make career moves into law firms and commerce and industry. I eventually got to the point where I wasn’t finding life in a traditional 9-5 fulfilling and couldn’t see myself doing the same thing for the next 30 years. I started the journey of discovering my purpose and what I genuinely loved and started my first business. It was during this period of soul searching that I discovered coaching and loved the transformation that I personally got from it. I decided to train as a coach, and after receiving my certification, I started to take on coaching clients. I’ve coached a variety of people, including lawyers, executives, finance professionals, and athletes, until more recently, focusing on helping female serviced-based entrepreneurs start and grow their own businesses. What motivates me each day is helping people to create a more fulfilling work life outside of the 9-5 and to show them that there are options to create a career that you love with freedom and flexibility in how you work. I love to help people connect with their purpose and believe that they can create an income using their unique gifts.

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

For me, it’s when my clients get amazing results and finally starts that business that they have been dreaming about forever. It’s very rewarding to watch them get their clients and get paid via their business or increase the quality of clients that they are currently attracting. This is even more rewarding because of the fact that many of my clients have had this wish to start their own business for many years but have not done so for one reason or another – fear of failure and judgment, procrastination, fear of leaving behind the perceived security of their corporate job to go it alone, etc.

For example, one client I worked with recently had been in her corporate career for well over a decade, performing at a high level but had lost her confidence in the process and doubted if she could create the business she wanted. During our time working together, we worked on transforming her mindset and self-belief whilst helping her understand how to package and sell her services. By the time we finished working together, she was replacing her monthly corporate income and had doubled her return on investment in the coaching program. She had a whole renewed confidence and could see how she could create an income outside of the 9-5.

On a personal level, a big accomplishment has been returning to business following a life-threatening event in the form of a cardiac arrest in mid-2021. It recharged my love for life and my work and helped me be clearer about the impact I want to make and the legacy I want to leave through my work. Having navigated such a huge obstacle has made me more resilient as an individual and as a business owner.

What's one of the hardest things that comes with being a business owner?

One of the hardest things about being a business owner is that, for a while, you have to wear a lot of hats. Not only are you carrying out your service, but you are also responsible for marketing, sales, finance – the lot. This means that you have to be adaptable, flexible, and willing to learn new skills until you can hire help.

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

  1. Your personal growth is one of the key things as a business owner. You will hit limiting beliefs and stumbling blocks at all stages. Investing in your personal development is key, as your business will only grow to the extent that you do.
  2. Self-care is key. When you are an entrepreneur, you are your business. Looking after yourself is key, and build this into your routines – not as an afterthought. When you are busy, self-care is one of the quickest things to slip off the list. Starting your day with a morning routine can help massively.
  3. Finally, invest in a coach for support with your mindset, creating your vision, and staying accountable to your goal. Get as much help as you can. Outsource as early as you can so you are not doing everything yourself. Get help around areas that you consider a weakness for you.
