Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey in health and fitness but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Matthew Collins, Owner of The Fitness Accelerator, located in San Diego, CA, USA.

What's your business, and who are your customers?

I am the owner of The Fitness Accelerator. I focus on fitness coaching and consulting for high-performing professionals. I work with my clients to help them with anything from rehabbing nagging injuries to dialing in their training and nutrition and really anything else needed for them to continue leveling up.

Tell us about yourself

Health and fitness has been at the forefront of my life since I was 12 years old - 20 years now. After learning the ins and outs of the fitness world organically through the years, I realized I am extremely passionate about helping others achieve what I was able to achieve for myself. My motivation is my clients - when they succeed, I am fulfilled.

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

My biggest accomplishment is creating a well-oiled machine that allows me to pay the bills, help people realize and exceed their potential on a daily basis, and empower them to sustain these changes for life. I got into this field because of my own passion for health and fitness, but I am in this for the long haul because of the amazing impact I have on my clients' lives. It really is an amazing feeling.

What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?

One of the hardest things I have come across is simply figuring out the process on the marketing side of things. I am a trainer through and through and had to learn the business side of things in order to really succeed in the online sector. Although it has been a challenge at times, it makes me feel very accomplished that I was able to figure these aspects out and be successful.

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

  1. Make sure you are following your passion.
  2. Hire someone to help you eliminate wasted time and effort.
  3. Be consistent and persistent.

Is there anything else you'd like to share?

Owning and operating a business is a long and hard challenge to undertake, but it's worth all of the time and effort if you stick to the plan and come out stronger and more successful on the other end.
