Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey in food and beverage but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Toni Mccann, owner of The Hangar Cafe, located in Seattle, WA, USA.

What's your business, and who are your customers?

A quaint café with a twist on traditional breakfast, specializing in sweet and savory crepes, accompanied by an array of tasty waffles.

Tell us about yourself

Owning a small café has always been my dream. I am motivated each day by the connection I get to have with new and old regulars.

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

Deciding to follow my dreams and open during these uncertain times, pivoting as needed.

What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?

Not taking things personally. Wanting to please everyone is a hard rule to follow, and sometimes things fall short. As a great man once told me, "It is just food, and we will try again tomorrow."

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

  1. Get an amazing bookkeeper, cannot stress how important and helpful mine has been from day one.
  2. Reaching out and accepting help. There are not enough hours in the day to do it all. When offered, leaning on friends and family has saved the day more than once!
  3. Personal time. Does not seem possible at times, but you have to keep doing what feeds your personal soul.
