The Nom Nutrition - Kaitlynn Hoffman

Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey in health and wellness but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Kaitlynn Hoffman, founder of The Nom Nutrition, located in Victoria, BC, Canada.

What's your business, and who are your customers?

The Nom Nutrition is a personal chef service and nutrition support business with a focus on gut health. I help busy people have happier guts and discover that nourishing themselves doesn't have to be so hard!

Tell us about yourself

I'm Kaitlynn, owner, certified holistic chef, and registered holistic nutritionist of The Nom Nutrition. I've always felt a deep connection to food and have learned to support my health challenges through eating a balanced diet that is right for me. The idea for The Nom all started when my partner poked fun at me on a road trip. He noticed that whenever I bite into something tasty, I make a very audible "nom" sound. This quickly become something more - a mission to share food that is both nourishing AND nom worthy. Eating healthy doesn't have to be boring!

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

Launching my "Nom from the Heart Program" which helps to feed individuals and families struggling with food security access to healthy, delicious food. This program is funded by donations and future fundraisers!

What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?

Wearing all the hats at once and learning to find balance. It's very difficult to be a personal chef, nutritionist, bookkeeper, marketing expert, accountant, administrative whiz, graphic designer, and business owner all at once. Asking for help and setting boundaries is essential!

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

  1. Be patient and find a pace that works for you. When I first started, I thought going hard all day every day would work best for me. What I've learned is supplementing my income with a part-time job and gradually building my business took a huge chunk of the financial stress off my plate. This made building a business so much more enjoyable!
  2. Find some friends. Surround yourself with a network of like-minded people doing similar things in business. This will make things much less lonely, and you can bounce ideas/struggles off each other. Having a mentor to ask questions is also important!
  3. Let go of perfection. Chances are, you won't know everything about your business on day 1. Since I started my business, I changed my biz name and what my primary services are. Be okay with making mistakes and learning from them to become a wiser entrepreneur. Don't wait for everything to be "perfect" on the backside of the business before getting out there and actually running your business. Good enough is perfect.

Is there anything else you'd like to share?

I love connecting with others about food, movement, and business, so please don't hesitate to reach out.
