Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey in health and wellness but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Pinkey Patel, Founder of The SnapBack, located in Norman, OK, USA.

What's your business, and who are your customers?

The SnapBack App is the only all-in-one, evidence based postpartum resource and community mother’s need.

The average time between delivery and the first postpartum follow-up visit is six weeks. After six weeks of sedentary living and physical-mental changes, most women are cleared to return to normal activity. Nine months of creating life and readjusting organs cannot be solved effectively in one 15-minute appointment after six weeks. The postpartum period with a newborn is one of the most daunting and overwhelming times - having an app that provides multiple resources in one place is perhaps the most vital thing in one's hospital bag. We can mitigate incontinence and pelvic floor abnormalities, and we can reduce anxiety by being equipped with the right, science-backed tools. While the societal narrative for motherhood in the postpartum stage mainly concerns care for the newborn, little attention is given to the mother's physical and mental health. Enter, The SnapBack.

The Snapback App presents intuitive technology created to cater to each individual mama + baby based on their delivery type (C-section or Vaginal, with degree of tearing in mind), physical/mental health resources. We differ as we are results driven and approach the mothers delivery experience with a unique lens. The function of the app is to provide an individualized rehab experience that serves as an assistant to women navigating the whirlpool that is postpartum, at an affordable, accessible and informative rate. The app serves as a comprehensive  assistant that presents pertinent information to the mom at the most opportune time.

Our mission is to provide postpartum mothers with credible, efficient and affordable resources and community. Our brand values all center around effective healing. It is imperative to us to operate on credibility, transparency, and intentionality. These three facets inform all our decisions. Mother's don't need a quick fix, they don't need to be convinced their problems deserve solutions, they need support. We're here to hold their hand when they get home.  We aim to impact society by supporting women in a better capacity to take care of themselves so they can take care of those who need them the most.

Tell us about yourself

Dr. Pinkey Patel is a clinical pharmacist who is also a certified NASM personal trainer, specializing in pre/post natal corrective exercise. Dr. Patel first hand experienced the gap in women's healthcare and the lack of reliable, credible resources.  From learning how to establish a business from scratch in 2019 to developing a consultancy, and building out an app, Dr. Patel has previously juggled working full-time as a pharmacist, being a mother of two, being pregnant and successfully bringing a product to market. When you're doing something as visceral and life-altering as growing a human, the resources you receive during and afterwards should reflect that magnitude, they should be as thoroughly created, as seriously considered as the life we create.

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

A reflection of our impact can be demonstrated by the fact that in less than 20 months through entirely organic outreach and 0 ad spend, the beta release of the app has seen 95K+ downloads across the globe. Our consumers publicly leave reviews on all our platforms stating that their recovery after employing The SnapBack techniques, was far less cumbersome. The greatest testimonials come from second time moms who come to us and express gratitude for providing this platform. They state their recovery and ability to feel empowered in the bodies is solely due to using TSB versus their first pregnancy. When our moms tell us they don't have pain in the pelvic region, do not have back pain, abdominal separation, etc -- we translate this to a betterment of their quality of life. Thriving mom, thriving family, thriving society.  Our mission is to provide postpartum mothers with credible, efficient and affordable resources and community. Our brand values all center around effective healing, it is imperative to us to operate on credibility, transparency, and intentionality. These three facets inform all our decisions.  Mother's don't need a quick fix, they don't need to be convinced their problems deserve solutions, they need support. We're here to hold their hand when they get home.

What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?

The biggest struggle was when I first took the leap. Instead of jumping straight into entrepreneurship, I decided to continue to work as a clinical pharmacist, while pregnant as, first, the community was built while simultaneously building the App that was going to be launched 3 weeks prior to giving birth to my second born. Although as a perfectionist and someone striving to put the perfect product into world, quickly learning that the first iteration isn't the last, was quite the surprise! I always say I had no business building a business (given my initial background), but my experiences postpartum caused me to create a solution for every mother after me. With this comes many learning curves as a non-technical, first time founder. Accepting that the velocity at which I pivot during each failure or learning experience has been invaluable. Sure, I dove in to solve a problem for mothers, but that also comes with a non-linear success curve and navigating the highs or high and lows of lows without giving up, has been the true challenge.

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

  1. Your first iteration is not your last.
  2. The velocity of your success is dependent on how fast you learn from a failure.
  3. Acknowledge your weaknesses and hire those who are better than you in those areas.

Is there anything else you'd like to share?

When you're doing something as visceral and life-altering as growing a human, the resources you receive during and after should reflect that magnitude; they should be as thoroughly developed and as seriously considered as the life we create.
We create tech for the future. It's time we create tech for moms who birth the future.
