The Solution is Sleep - Dr. Angela Holliday-Bell

Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey in health and wellness but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Dr. Angela Holliday-Bell, CEO of The Solution is Sleep, located in Chicago, IL, USA.

What's your business, and who are your customers?

I am the CEO of a sleep consulting and coaching business called The Solution is Sleep. I mainly help individuals who suffer from chronic insomnia through my one-on-one coaching. I also provide consultations to small and large corporations to help improve employee sleep, health, and productivity.

Tell us about yourself

I am a Board Certified Physician by training and decided to become certified as a sleep health specialist after going through my own struggle with insomnia while in medical training. After realizing how significantly my insomnia was affecting me both mentally and physically, I decided that I had to make a change. After transforming my sleep and overall life, I knew I had to help others do the same. So I created The Solution is Sleep to do just that. I am motivated by seeing people literally lead happier lives with improved energy, motivation, and mental clarity from working with me to improve their sleep. I know firsthand how good sleep changes lives, and I am so excited to be a part of that change.

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

I would have to say that being featured in Health magazine was a huge accomplishment for me and something that I take a lot of pride in.

What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?

One of the hardest things is overcoming rejection. There have been opportunities and contracts that I was really excited about that fell through for one reason or another. As a business owner, you always want to feel like you are moving in a straight line forward, but sometimes that line looks more like a zig-zag that still gets you to the same destination, but not as smoothly as you had hoped. It can be discouraging at times, so it's important to remember to continue to push through to your goal.

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

  1. Know your "why." Starting, growing, and running a successful business is not easy. There will be a lot of setbacks along the way, and if you don't have a strong enough "why," it will leave you more vulnerable to wanting to give up.
  2. Have a plan. Running a business is a large undertaking and doing it without a plan makes it a much more overwhelming process. I recommend mapping out what your endpoint is and the steps you need to take to get there. These steps may change, and there may be some added and deleted along the way, but the most important thing is having a plan.
  3. Don't give up! I know it sounds cliche, but there will be many times along the journey that you want to throw in the towel. There will be obstacles and times you feel that you have failed. Yes, it will be hard, but if it is your passion, it will also be worth it!
