What's your business, and who are your customers?
The Verdant Maiden is a personal care and wellness boutique that celebrates female-owned brands and products that are organic, natural, and wildcrafted. Sustainability and sourcing are at the forefront of all of the brands housed at TVM. Our customers care about what goes into their bodies and on their skin. They care about sourcing, sustainability, and taking things slow.
Tell us about yourself
I wore a lot of hats before I got the keys and created the concept for The Verdant Maiden - from commercial insurance to photography to wedding and event design. High stress and workload moved me away from the wedding industry and prompted me to look inward about what I wanted and, in turn, what was missing on Nantucket. What motivates me is helping people with their self-love and self-care. Having my customers' trust to help educate and navigate their skin woes or concerns with whole-plant products is what keeps me motivated and excited.
What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?
My biggest accomplishment is having built this business, turning four years on April 19th, from the ground up by myself.
What's one of the hardest things that comes with being a business owner?
Education and sourcing, and research. Not a negative thing, but an important one. Financials are not my strong suit, so that category of business must-dos is definitely difficult for me. Thankfully, I have a few women (my bookkeeper and tax accountant) to help me out with those.
What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?
Start small, be patient, and constantly learn about your customer.
