What's your business, and who are your customers?
I am a veteran voiceover actor with 30 years of experience. Daily, I record voiceovers for various clients. Now I also coach people interested in learning the craft and creating their own freelance businesses as voice actors.
Tell us about yourself
When I was 18, I had the opportunity to watch a voiceover session in person. After observing the actress, I knew it was something I would love to pursue, as I had a background in musical theater and acting. I love using my voice and inspiring others to do the same every day. It's a passion that hasn't wavered in over 30 years. I love what I do for a living!
What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?
Being able to maintain my business as a freelance voice actor since 2005 successfully, as the business can be very challenging and competitive. Only a small percentage of voice actors last longer than a few years.
What's one of the hardest things that comes with being a business owner?
Continually seeking out new clients and prospects, especially when you are already busy with current clients and work. Complacency can creep in at times of success.
What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?
- Research your field of interest and know your challenges.
- Understand that it's always a journey and not a destination.
- Be willing to accept the highs and lows of any career, as things don't stay the same.
