Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Nicole Carline, Accountability Coach at The Wellbeing Hacker, located in Palm Beach Gardens, FL, USA.

What's your business, and who are your customers?

We help people considering a career transition land their dream job so they live a more meaningful life as soon as possible. We serve successful professionals who have been working for 10+ years or more and who are feeling burnt out or unfulfilled in their work. These individuals often "feel stuck" and are just working to earn their paycheck, but really have a more significant desire to do something that they either can be really passionate about or do more fulfilling work.

Through a highly-structured program along with accountability coaching, we help clients get crystal clear on the type of work they TRULY want to do, not only accelerating their path to land their dream job/work but also, in many cases, earning more than what they were earning before.

Another group of individuals we are looking to serve are college students who may not be clear in what area to major in or what industry/type of work they would really want to do. We find that many students are choosing majors based on the type of work their parents do or others in their social circle, but they haven't had many opportunities to explore all different types of work or companies that may be more aligned with their purpose, or they haven't fully uncovered what their own personal mission is.

Tell us about yourself

I am a wife, mom, and a successful business leader with over 20+ years of sales, marketing, and IT leadership experience. I, myself, experienced corporate burnout at a point in my career and didn't feel fulfilled by the work I was doing. I knew I was spending so much of my time in my career, but I didn't have a true sense of purpose or feel that my work was really impactful. So I turned to my cousin, Danielle Posa, the Founder of The Wellbeing Hacker and Workplace Wellbeing Advisors. I had gone through her program, "The Legacy Builder," which completely changed my life! It gave me the clarity I needed to understand the work that I was truly meant to do and helped me uncover the people that I wanted to serve every day. So about two years ago, I joined forces with her, and we are not only business partners, but also I am an Accountability Coach for the clients we have in our program.

What motivates me about the work that I do is truly seeing the massive changes our clients make once they go through our program! We see healthcare workers become real estate investors, corporate tech sales professionals become entrepreneurs, and general managers who finally figure out their calling/mission and start doing that work in a company with whom they are more aligned. The stories are endless, and I feel honored to help people not only make the transition but see them thriving in their new line of work.

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

My biggest accomplishment as a business owner is once again seeing our client's transformation process. Over the course of eight weeks, we see individuals whose confidence and overall well-being scores are very low; they are nervous initially they won't get the clarity they need or find work that they will REALLY love. However, a huge shift occurs mid-way through the program when they finally start to uncover their true mission, passions, and strengths, and then they become laser-focused on relentlessly pursuing their next opportunity. It's incredible to see their confidence increase significantly, and we get to share in their excitement about the new opportunity they have just created or landed. Watching people transform in all aspects of their life, not only in their job but in their relationships, health, and all other aspects of their lives, is truly an honor.

What's one of the hardest things that comes with being a business owner?

Being a business owner is incredibly exciting. You get to choose how to spend your day and the people you want to surround yourself with. On the other hand, you have to figure out what things to spend your time on that will be most valuable for your business. There is so much that you can do, like building content, marketing, investing in training, speaking events, and expanding your network. All of these are really important, but it can be easy to work on things that may not be as valuable, so it's good to build a network with other entrepreneurs to help you figure out what's working well, what is not worth as much time, and what are some lessons learned. I also find that having a business partner is great as I may have an idea that I am really excited about, but once we start to talk about it and if it really aligns with our business or not, it helps us both to stay focused on the activities we have set ourselves out to master.

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

  1. Have you tested the market with your product or service to know if you are truly solving a need/problem out there with a particular group(s) of individuals?
  2. Do you have a plan financially that will allow for some time to grow your business? The last thing you want is to feel incredibly pressured to get something off the ground quickly because you need to pay for your next month's rent/mortgage. You want to have a plan financially to feel secure in the highs and lows of your business.
  3. Surround yourself with other entrepreneurs. Most people are willing to share what has worked well for them, what has not, and how they are doing something. Also, you never know if the people you may surround yourself with can also eventually become partners or provide an add-on or service to your business. Collective thinking is better than individual thinking.
