Grow Your Business - This Best Life

Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey in business development but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Leslie Rae, Co-Founder of This Best Life, located in Bartlett, IL, USA.

What's your business, and who are your customers?

Through consulting, education, and coaching, my business partner and I help entrepreneurs build high-performing sales teams to increase their bottom line, outsell the competition, and build strong relationships with the market that sustain future growth. Our customers are entrepreneurs who need to grow their sales function and don't know where to start or those with teams that need help creating a repeatable process that drives revenue and customer loyalty.

Tell us about yourself

My passion is transformation! Whether it's a good home makeover, helping a rescue dog get adopted, or coaching a client to achieve their goals, it's that feeling of enabling big change that gets me out of bed in the morning. I had a great corporate career in driving organizational change and wanted to impact thousands of businesses that otherwise may not have access to these types of transformational programs. With that shared motivation, my business partner and I set a date and took the leap to move toward making that dream a reality, and here we are!

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

Creating a community of customers and followers who have elevated their approach to running their businesses through our coaching and training efforts.

What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?

Taking on all the roles. In the beginning, you're the CEO, the marketing department, IT support, the sales team, accounting, and everything else the business needs to run. It can be easy to get submerged trying to learn all the things, and you lose focus on why you got into business in the first place.

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

  1. Know your audience, and get close to the voice of your customer - this is so critical to everything you do. It's about your customer, not you when it comes to marketing, sales, and delivery of your content, product, or service.
  2. Know this is a journey, not a race. It's a winding, crazy path vs. a linear progression. There will be good times and challenging times, and the trajectory is much more important than any one season or launch.
  3. Remember, we all start at the beginning - don't compare where you're starting from to someone else's highlight reel. There's plenty of room for all of us - if you need to see that in action, just look at the shampoo aisle or bread aisle next time you're shopping as a reminder.
