What's your business, and who are your customers?
Facilitating and fostering effective workplace participation and leadership. People can participate and effectively lead when they feel safe, they understand expectations, and they know their ideas and contributions matter. I help organizations and collaborations to develop these conditions to foster effective participation and leadership.
Tell us about yourself
The business started when I got very interested in pandemic planning after SARS, and organizations started coming to me looking for help. Emergency management has been a big piece of my work ever since. I am motivated by a combination of things - connecting with talented people, having an impact, being able to be creative, and feeding my curiosity.
What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?
Bringing together the right people to support projects. I love collaborating with other consultants and trainers, and the work always ends up at its best when I do this well.
What's one of the hardest things that comes with being a business owner?
Managing the ups and downs of work being available. I'm getting better at it, though.
What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?
- Experiment and know that not everything you do will work.
- Find ways to deal with imposter syndrome.
- Listen.
