What's your business, and who are your customers?
I help organizations identify and resolve the culture blindspots that are costing them high-potential talent, productivity, and revenue. My customers are talented stakeholders, such as CTOs, L&D Managers, and HR Directors.
Tell us about yourself
I have been a business owner for 18 years. What motivated me to start my initial business was the presence of learning gaps and the desire to fill those gaps. I have pivoted a few times, but each time the basis was building skills in areas that I believe have a huge impact - Personal Finances, Health and Wellness, and Leadership, of which leadership is the area for which I have the most passion.
What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?
My biggest accomplishment has been my ability to pivot and be resilient. My initial business hit a huge roadblock when the economy crashed in 2008. I pivoted back to leadership/coaching, and then my health inspired me to pivot into health and wellness. COVID created a roadblock there, which has led me to now pivot back into the leadership space fully in a more scalable way - using the learnings from my past experiences.
What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?
Being a business owner is hard because it requires discipline and a very different mindset. There are no "rules" except the rules you create, which sounds delightful but is actually intimidating and requires a mindset that everything is an experiment.
What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?
- Fail forward and fast...failure tells you what not to do and gives you priceless insight and experience.
- Invest in yourself.
- Create a strong foundation that is scalable.
