Virtual Road Trip for Health - Toni Toledo

Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Toni Toledo, co-host of PATH Positive Approaches To Health Podcast, located in Campbell, CA, USA.

What's your business, and who are your customers?

We have a podcast called PATH Positive Approaches To Health! It is a virtual road trip that our listeners are on with us as we explore the world of health through conversations. We uncover resources, strategies, tools, and people who inspire us to be our healthiest. We are having the time of our lives on this road trip, focusing on all that can be done (positive spin) to live a great life and thrive.

Tell us about yourself

I am a dietitian who was inspired to go into this field for a couple of main reasons. First of all, I was lucky enough to be born into a household with parents who were super-active and focused on delicious and nutritious foods. They looked at how foods helped us feel good and perform. Secondly, I was diagnosed with a serious condition as a child. I was positively impacted by changing the way I ate, which helped me achieve better health and ameliorate that condition. Finally, I have always been so intrigued and inspired by the power of food on enjoying life through nutrient and flavor-packed food. I love to purport the benefits of disease prevention.

Now, I am a dietitian, and my co-host on this podcast is a dietitian, but we focus on all areas of health because we believe they are intertwined. There is synergy between healthy lifestyle behaviors and habits. We just released the 108th episode of our podcast and are going strong. LOVE this Journey.

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

Well, considering that we had no idea how to start a podcast almost five years ago, I mean no idea...the fact that we have built this successful podcast from the ground up is surely one of our major accomplishments. Also, the fact that we were able to help our listeners during the pandemic was huge! We stayed connected and created a lifeline to health during a very isolating and difficult time. Finally, we have built connections and friends with amazing humans (who are doing great things) worldwide. Oh, I am getting choked up typing this :)

What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?

I think the fact that as a business owner — is that it is all on you. Nobody is saying, "do this, do that." Now, that sounds great except for the fact that you are accountable to yourself at the end of the day, and you must remain disciplined and responsible. That is easy sometimes and (oh so) difficult other times.

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

  1. Find an accountability partner to keep you on task and processing goals, timelines, etc.
  2. Connect with like-minded people so you can grow and thrive with others.
  3. Embrace the fails...that is where you learn. Allow them, address them and let them help you build in areas where you can improve overall. This takes a mindset shift for many of us, but it is invaluable.

Is there anything else you'd like to share?

Only that — at nearly 55 years old — I never thought that I'd find something at this stage of my career that would bring me this much joy. I have had the most amazing ride on this podcast development journey. I feel that I have grown as a professional, but I have also become a better family member, friend, and human. All of this from going way out of my comfort zone. So, another piece of advice is don't be afraid to go out of your comfort zone. In fact, be sure to do that every so often.
