Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey in food and beverage but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Bailey Gregory, COO of Tracycakes, located in Abbotsford, BC, Canada.

What's your business, and who are your customers?

Tracycakes offers from-scratch specialty baked goods, elegant high teas, delicious beverages, and savoury lunch favourites in a welcoming and charming space. Our customers range from cupcake-loving children to young couples and life-long friends, all gathering in our quaint cafes.

Tell us about yourself

I have been working in the food industry for over 10 years. I have developed a love for the fast-paced and welcoming environment of restaurants. Getting to be a part of a team passionate about making meaningful connections with our guests motivates me each day. Seeing the smile on our guests' faces when we serve them our from-scratch baked goods, soups, and high tea makes every day worth it!

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

My biggest accomplishment is that I started out as a server. Through hard work and dedication, I have grown and expanded my role in the company while watching the company grow around me. Being able to take on more responsibility due to the needs of the business growing rapidly has been incredible to witness and be a part of.

What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?

It can be hard to find the right work/life balance when working in a small business. Work can easily take up a majority of your time, but when you do what you love, it hardly ever feels like work.

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

Be open-minded, listen to your customers and staff, and keep your passion alive.
