Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey in personal care but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Rei Lalo, Founder and CEO of TRIHARD, located in New York, NY, USA.

What's your business, and who are your customers?

TRIHARD is the fastest-growing athletic care brand that develops pre & post-workout solutions for active individuals to swim, run, cycle, and perform without compromising the health of their skin and hair. Our proprietary formulation effectively prevents, protects, and treats your body from the adverse effects of sweat, pool and ocean chemicals, chafing, and muscle and mind fatigue. Our solutions are made for athletes and people living an active lifestyle, people who want to protect their skin, hair, and body to look and feel good while performing and being active.

Tell us about yourself

I'm not just the founder but also a customer and an athlete myself. Who came up with the idea for Trihard from my passion for swimming, endurance sports, and entrepreneurship. I was born and raised in Israel, and since 8 years old, I've been doing sports intensely. At the age of 18, I had a severe injury to my spine. As part of my recovery process, I started aqua therapy and swimming. It was here that I realized the damaging effects of chlorine and salts on my skin and hair, and I saw an opportunity to help athletes all over the world. Six months later, I went back to cycling and running. Two years later, I signed up for my first triathlon and shortly after for a half Ironman race, and it became a way of life for me.

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

In the second year of business, revenues grew 250%, with 30% of revenues coming from repeat customers. This speaks volumes about the hard work and desire to produce high-quality products.

What's one of the hardest things that comes with being a business owner?

Running this project during COVID made the process much more challenging. The economy was a challenge around the world, so budgeting became an integral part of the project. Making decisions in a small company is also challenging because each decision represents a huge step. A poor decision could have tremendous consequences, but a good one could lead to significant growth. Thus, imagining scenarios and thinking long and hard before making a decision is always necessary.

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

  1. Make sure you believe in your idea and that it is something you would buy/use yourself.
  2. Check the market and competition to ensure more people will buy it and that no one is already doing it at the top level.
  3. You don't need a perfect product/service to launch. You can keep improving it along the way.
