Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey in health and wellness but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Kate Cullen, Owner of True North Massage & Bodywork, located in Yardley, PA, USA.

What's your business, and who are your customers?

I am a licensed massage therapist that specializes in corrective modalities that help improve and maintain the quality of life for my client base. I have clients from all walks of life, but predominantly those looking to help ease post-op recovery or chronic condition maintenance.

Tell us about yourself

When I started in the field, I saw clients being treated only as an average ticket, which didn't sit well with me. I enjoy being able to provide what I believe is a higher standard of care for people. This has also allowed for a peaceful balance between work and home life. My goal has always been to provide for my family and also provide for my clients. I am happy to say that both boxes are checked.

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

My biggest accomplishment as a business owner would have to be learning flexibility. I believe that single trait has and will continue to carry me through whatever climate the business is faced with.

What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?

Flexibility is important and can also be incredibly difficult. However, once you learn to bend in a new way, you are stronger as a whole... bending that way again won't be as difficult. Having to meet with the emergence of Covid, learning new protocols and updated standards, inflation, and any one of a million other possibilities, the hardest thing is that no one knows what the future holds, so you have to be prepared for anything.

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

  1. Don't give up.
  2. Don't give up.
  3. Don't give up.

It can be difficult, intimidating, frustrating, and slow to begin. Find someone that you trust in a position that you want to be in, and ask them questions! Be patient with yourself. Work hard, but not TOO hard. Rest when you need to. I myself worked everywhere I could while I was building. I wanted to be familiar with as many angles of the business as possible. But I firmly believe the single most important part is not giving up.
