What's your business, and who are your customers?

We create custom-decorated sugar cookies for all kinds of celebrations like birthdays, anniversaries, graduations, engagement parties, bachelorette parties, bridal showers, rehearsal dinners, weddings, memorial services, product launches, corporate events, VIP cookies for hotels, trade shows, marketing pitches, thank you’s, real-estate closings and recognition, cookies for every holiday and some just because.

Tell us about yourself

I first learned to bake and decorate sugar cookies to be that Nana who could make special cookies for when I might eventually have grandbabies! I didn’t have any grandkids at the time, and now we have 5 little ones. I have another full-time job in the Information Technology field, and our cookies have become my creative outlet. I love creating specific designs that capture the hearts of those who are celebrating an event or who are looking to thank for impress a client.

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

The biggest accomplishment I’ve enjoyed so far is the feedback from clients who tell me that these are the most delicious sugar cookies they’ve tasted, ever! So many cookies like ours are beautiful, but not all of them are delicious. I’m so proud and gratified when I receive feedback that our cookies were gorgeous and delicious. One of the funniest comments I recently received is that a 9-year-old had one of our cookies at a party and saved the packaging to share with her mom so she could have our cookies at her next party! Another big accomplishment was providing 2,000 cookies for a large medical provider in our area.

What's one of the hardest things that comes with being a business owner?

Balancing the creative side with the business side - there are a lot of ingredients and supplies needed to be able to continually provide a quality product, so keeping on top of inventory and tracking order details definitely requires a lot of attention to detail.

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

  1. Start small, but start! Create social media and a website to share your business and your story.
  2. Do your best to stay organized!
  3. Your business will grow through social media, so don’t overextend yourself by spending a lot on advertising. Word of mouth for a quality product or service is invaluable!
