What's your business, and who are your customers?

Unisoy is a plant-based jerky catered toward consumers that are open and willing to try plant-based foods.

Tell us about yourself

When my brother and I were kids, we liked to go hiking, camping, and other outdoor activities. Looking back, I realized there were no sustainable foods. From then on, I found the motivation to start Unisoy by reinventing a childhood snack to make it more sustainable.

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

As a business owner, my biggest accomplishments is being able to connect with a wide range of consumers and learning about their preference and taste and also managing a team, and promoting the goal of veganism.

What's one of the hardest things that comes with being a business owner?

One of the hardest things of being a business owner is being flexible on the daily. Also, every day is not the same. There's different challenges daily that you may not always have the answer for.

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

  1. Pre-Plan, Pre-Plan, Pre-Plan. If you fail to plan, you plan to fail. Before you start your business, do every bit of homework. This includes pricing, consumers, and competitors. Differentiate your communication of your purpose.
  2. Construct a strong team, standing from legal to operations to insurance to marketing.
  3. Simplify your prophecies. Document them. And train your staff.
