Tell us about yourself

Recognized as an excellent cook, Jessica Avoine was often asked by her friends if they could taste her dishes before even thinking about going into business. So she started cooking homemade meals that she stored in her freezer to sell to those around her. Quickly noticing this enthusiasm, her mother, Diane Bolduc, sniffed out a great business opportunity and suggested that her daughter prepare vacuum-packed dishes to preserve their freshness. Her sister Victoria and her brother Jason joined the business right after. And a few years later, Jessica's fiancee and Jason's wife joined the team as well.

Our motivation is to work together as a family. We all have different strengths, and we love to help each other. We can count on each other to be there in difficult times. It is very uplifting and helpful to know that we can be there for each other. We also love to spend some family time to enjoy a simple life and cook together.

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

We started the business with no plan B, and we gave all that we had. It is amazing to see all the way we've come since all those years. Jessica starts the company in her own kitchen, and we now have six stores and a manufacturing facility. We never knew that it would be that big.

What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?

Even if we have so many opportunities, there are a lot of responsibilities 365 days per year. When you have some bad days, you just have to keep going and trust that tomorrow will be a good day again. We give all that we have to be creative, strong, and to please every customer.

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

  1. Don't give up; if things are not going the way you want, just take a little break and try again tomorrow!
  2. Trust in yourself, and don't wait to chase your dreams! Each day counts.
  3. Treat each customer like the best customer; you never know where it can lead you.
