What's your business, and who are your customers?
I own and operate Village Chocolate Co. We are a bean-to-bar craft chocolate maker in Saskatchewan, Canada.
Tell us about yourself
With a background in the culinary arts, I have always loved to explore foods and experiment with flavours. I, like many others, love chocolate, and while enjoying a late-night chocolaty snack one evening, I started wondering where chocolate comes from. On a whim, I decided it would be fun to make chocolate right from the cocoa beans, and thus was the beginning of Village Chocolate Co.
What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?
I believe that even just taking the step to start a business and keep at it is an accomplishment in and of itself.
What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?
Overall being a business owner isn’t easy; it takes perseverance, risk, and overcoming self-doubt. One of the biggest struggles I’ve found is reaching customers and having them discover your products.
What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?
- Know what sets your product apart from others, or make sure that you incorporate something into it that does.
- Never put out a product that you wouldn’t be proud to say you sell, believe in it and yourself.
- Always keep improving yourself and your skills.
