True Health Care, Built for You - Vytal Health

Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey in health and wellness but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Tiffany Mullen, Co-Founder and CEO of Vytal Health, located in Milwaukee, WI, USA.

What's your business, and who are your customers?

In an era of rushed, transactional health care visits, Vytal Health offers an alternative: personalized functional & integrative medicine via telemedicine, all from the comfort of home. Functional & integrative medicine physicians focus on solving health problems at their root cause instead of covering symptoms with prescription after prescription. Longer visits with our doctors allow ample time to dive into a lifestyle (nutrition, movement, stress, and sleep), and our home-based test kits offer a deeper understanding of your health and symptoms. Our patients are generally those whose symptoms have been dismissed or under-treated by the traditional health care system.

Tell us about yourself

I have been a patient since the age of 18 months when I was diagnosed with Rheumatoid Arthritis. Having experiences as a patient ultimately motivated me to attend medical school. As a practicing physician, I realized that physicians, too, experience deep dissatisfaction with providing rushed, superficial visits that don't provide much help to their patients. I'm motivated to make the experience for both patients and physicians more rewarding, to support their critically important relationship, and transform the healthcare industry into one that works better for everyone.

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

My biggest accomplishment is survival. My business survived my own unexpected catastrophic illness, a global pandemic, a founder split, and an economic downturn. And yet, four years later, we're still here and growing.

What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?

It is difficult to be "all things to everyone" in your business before you are big enough to have a supportive team. In that way, you are never really "off."

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

  1. Have a true passion for what your business offers. This makes it easier to keep going when times get tough.
  2. Surround yourself with people who are smarter than you.
  3. Talk to your customers often and take their advice seriously.
