What's your business, and who are your customers?
We make homemade soaps, body butters, bath bombs, lip balms, beard balms, and salt scrubs - soon to include deodorant to the product offerings! Our products are 100% natural and made with the highest quality carrier oils, butter, and essential oils. Free from artificial scents, dyes, and colors. All of our products are hand-made by us at our location in Georgetown, IN.
Our customers are people who want to get away from commercially made soaps, lotions, etc. When talking with our customers about our products, they get excited and then decide what they want to purchase.
Tell us about yourself
Winking Owl Soap Company was created out of the pandemic of 2020. We decided to live a life more naturally; all of our products contain natural ingredients. All of our products are 100% preservative free. I love being able to make great products that people enjoy using! We are vendors at craft/art fairs, and everyone loves the smell of our products. Working for yourself is very rewarding!
What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?
Last year, we participated in a festival in Western North Carolina and sold out of all products! It was great meeting a lot of people and talking with them about our products.
What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?
We also work full-time jobs to help sustain ourselves and the business. Since we are such a small company, sometimes it's a task to keep inventory in stock.
What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?
- Research and test your products. Family and friends are great test subjects.
- Before selling anything, make sure you have the proper certifications with your state.
- Never give up! You don't know where this will lead.
