Habits, Associations, Thoughts - WiseHAT Consulting

Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey in personal development but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Jocquice "Jae" Spikes, Founder and CEO of WiseHAT Consulting, located in San Ramon, CA, USA.

What's your business, and who are your customers?

WiseHAT Consulting is a career and business consulting company that empowers brilliant women who feel stuck and burned out to change their HAT (Habits, Associations, and Thoughts) to create real opportunities.

Tell us about yourself

I've been in Corporate America for 25 years, and I suffered a lot with articulating my value in the workplace. I was blessed with wonderful mentors that invested in me, telling me the real secrets to success in leadership and business. Over the years, as I began to manage other women, I noticed they, too, struggled with articulating their value in the workplace. I began doing webinars at work, and thousands of women would show up. I started WiseHAT Consulting because I did not want to see another woman suffer in the way that I did.

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

There are several, but the top two are 1) having the courage to tell the personal journey of my struggles in Corporate America in my book, The Humbitious Woman - How to Self-Promote in the Workplace Without Feeling Like You're Bragging. 2) Helping a client who was told she did not qualify for a job and that, in fact, another candidate was being considered to discover her confidence, update her resume, ace the interview and get the position!

What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?

Keeping the right harmony (not balance) in place between work life and family. I don't believe in the concept of "work-life balance" because that implies that I have to take from one thing to give to the other. Instead, I strive for harmony like a symphony - where each instrument plays along with the others. On occasion, there may be a solo, but overall, the instruments create a beautiful harmony.

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

Change your H.A.T.

  1. Habits - what habits do you need to address to be successful?
  2. Associations - surround yourself with like-minded people - this may require you to collaborate with other networks, etc., that share your common goal.
  3. Thoughts - Your thoughts are powerful- if you don't believe you will be successful, you won't. Undergo a thought transplant!
