Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey in jewelry but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Kelly Weinberger, founder, and CEO of WorldFinds, located in Westmont, IL, USA.

What's your business, and who are your customers?

Hello! I'm Kelly, and my business is called WorldFinds. It's a brand of jewelry & accessories that empowers women through fair trade. We partner with artisan groups in India to create our sustainable designs. Our customers love to express themselves through their jewelry and accessories and also are conscious of their impact on people and the planet. People have so much power in their purchasing, and it's so easy to create an incredible impact through those choices.

Tell us about yourself

I got the idea for WorldFinds in the middle of a 14-month backpack trip around the world. I was in Nepal and learned about fair trade through a fellow traveler, and I had my lightbulb moment. I began doing tons of research, and everything kept coming back to one thing - each artisan group I met needed more work. So I created WorldFinds in the hopes of getting regular employment to artisan communities through the creation of our jewelry and accessories. Our artisan partners in India and Nepal are amazing and motivate me every day! As we've grown, the artisan groups have grown, and we want it to continue - so that keeps me and our team going!

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

The fact that we're still here after more than 20 years! It's still really hard to believe; the time has gone really fast as there's always something unexpected happening.

What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?

Working in the handmade, fair trade space is incredibly challenging but also really rewarding. It's a rare moment when things are running smoothly both here and with our artisan partners. The hardest thing is probably to realize that things never really slow down; you just have to move forward in the chaos.

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

Do your research on your industry, figure out what you could do differently from what else is out there, and trust your instincts.

Is there anything else you'd like to share?

It's a marathon! I'm incredibly lucky to have a great team and get to work with amazing women and create a true impact.
