Tell us about yourself

I started my career as a Consultant for Deloitte Consulting in Washington, D.C. Growing up; I was always inspired by my mother’s ability to bring people of all cultures and backgrounds around the table through the platform of healthy and delicious food. While living in D.C., I was eating poorly and getting horrible heartburn from store-bought food. Inspired by my mom’s own cooking (that didn’t give me heartburn), I decided to launch a natural foods company and move back to Florida. Welcome to Yo Mama’s Foods! Our company is on a mission to bring the world back to the table through healthy and delicious foods. If it’s not an ingredient your mom has in her kitchen, it doesn’t go into our products - no gums, fillers, preservatives, and colors. Since our start on Mother’s Day 2017, we have grown to over 15,000 retail stores nationwide and the #1 best seller on Amazon for four years in a row.

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

Building and growing a team of 15 to ship to over 15,000 stores nationwide and seven countries overseas.

What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?

The top of one mountain is the bottom of the next. As you grow and expand, your problems get larger and more complicated. This is rewarding, however, as your problem-solving skills also get stronger as you work through the challenges.

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

  1. Start small, think big, and scale quickly.
  2. Say yes to opportunities and figure it out later.
  3. Persistence and tenacity are key to growth and your ultimate success as a leader.
